In our fall pumpkin shrub syrup, the apple cider vinegar gives a tang and a subtlety to the sweet pumpkin pie spices so prevalent this time of the year.
This autumnal shrub is great served cold, either with booze (such rum or bourbon) or on its own with soda water or, dress it up a bit with ginger beer. You can also top it with hot water and your favorite amber spirit and serve it as a Pumpkin Shrub Toddy.
Beware however of using a shrub syrup in your coffee. The vinegar in the shrub and the acidity of the coffee do not play well together!
